About Ultimul Drum Spre Mare (The Last Trip to the Seaside)

From the very first long take, the brilliant mise-en-scène allows us to discover the characters, one after the other through the balance of power. As they wander in real time, seemingly without a care in the world, they move from a shared intimate experience to a collective chronicle. In a small compartment, a wagon, and a train (a pressure cooker where ancient tensions and new anxieties simmer) they show their true colours. You could have expected a heavy-handed satire; on the contrary, it is scathing.
