Revealed at La Semaine de la Critique, back at Cannes in 2024!
Quentin Dupieux will open the next edition of the Cannes Film Festival with LE DEUXIÈME ACTE (THE SECOND ACT). He presented his second feature RUBBER in Special Screening at La Semaine de la Critique in 2010.
British director Andrea Arnold will present her new feature BIRD in Official Competition, and will also receive the Carrosse d'or to open the Quinzaine des Cinéastes. She was first discovered at La Semaine de la Critique with her short film MILK in 1998, and was President of La Semaine de la Critique Jury in 2014.
Also in Official Competition, EMILIA PEREZ, Jacques Audiard's tenth feature. Audiard first came to prominence with his debut feature REGARDE LES HOMMES TOMBER at La Semaine de la Critique in 1994.
Two filmmakers discovered at La Semaine de la Critique will present their new features at Un Certain Regard. First, Konstantin Bojanov, discovered with AVÉ in 2011, returns with THE SHAMELESS. Boris Lojkine, discovered with HOPE in 2014, will present L'HISTOIRE DE SOULEYMANE.
In the Midnight Screening, Irish director Lorcan Finnegan presents his new feature THE SURFER after VIVARIUM, which won the GAN Foundation Award at La Semaine de la Critique in 2019.
Arnaud Desplechin comes back to Cannes for the 12th time with SPECTATEURS after having his first steps at Semaine de la Critique with his mid-length short LA VIE DES MORTS in 1991.
Finally, at Cannes Première, Leos Carax, who made his name at La Semaine de la Critique in 1984 with BOY MEETS GIRL, will present his new film: C'EST PAS MOI.
At the Directors’ Fortnight this year!
Filmmakers Caroline POGGI and Jonathan VINEL return to Cannes this year with their second feature EAT THE NIGHT at the Directors' Fortnight. In 2017, they presented their short film AFTER SCHOOL KNIFE FIGHT in special screening.
Also in 2017, Canadian director Matthew RANKIN presented his second short film TESLA: LUMIERE MONDIALE. He then took part in the 4th Next Step promotion, where he developed his second feature film project UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE, selected this year at the Directors' Fortnight.
Thierry DE PERETTI will come back at the Directors' Fortnight and will present his new feature A SON IMAGE (IN HIS OWN IMAGE) after A VIOLENT LIFE selected in special screening at La Semaine de la Critique in 2017.
To close this edition, Jean-Christophe MEURISSE will present his third feature LES PISTOLETS EN PLATIQUE (PLASTIC GUNS). The director presented his first feature APNÉE in special screening at La Semaine de la Critique in 2016.
