Depuis qu’Otar est parti
by Julie Bertuccelli
In Tbilissi, the charming but dilapidated capital of post-soviet Georgia, the young Ada, lives with her mother Marina and her grandmother Eka. In the old apartment that they share, day to day life doesn't come easy, smiles and laughter are hard won. The only joy in their lives are the regular letters sent by Otar, the adored son who has moved to Paris and sends a little money from time to time. In his long absence, his name has become mythic in the household. Unfortunately, one day he is tragically killed in an accident and Marina cannot bring herself to announce his death to the aging Eka. With Ada as her accomplice they decide to continue writing as Otar but this "little white lie" will soon mix up everyone's lives.
