1998 Selection

The Polish Bride is a psychological drama about the bloosoming love between a farmer from Groningen and a Polish woman. Anna has been hired to Holland false pretences by two men who want her to work in a brothel. She manages to escape and is found by a farmer on his land. The terrified and weakened woman is cared for by the taciturn farmer. He offers to pay for her journey back to Poland, but she wants to stay and work for it. As far as he is concerned, she can stay as long as she likes. The two of them slowly grow closer and the farmer tries to instill in his new lodger the beauty of the Groningen highlands and his love for them.
