Duende
by Jean-Blaise Junod
The film starts with a religious procession. A reminder of Spain's attachment to the sacred and its ceremonies.
Yet the film-maker invites us to the celebration of another rite : bullfighting. The hero, a young bullfighter, comes back to the city where he was born for the bullfight which will make him a real matador. He gets ready for the fight, trains in the arena with some friends, even at night among wild bulls. Step after step, we follow this young bullfighter in his preparation. The reunion with his friends is a time for speaking and eating together, but it is alone in a anonymous hotel room that the future matador will be able to concentrate. Finally, after putting on his outfit and saying one last prayer, he rushes forwad into the arena.
