Guillermo del Toro
Born in Guadalajara, Guillermo del Toro studied make-up effects in his teens and produced his first feature at the age of 21. He gained worldwide recognition when Cronos (1993), which he wrote and directed, won the Semaine de la Critique prize at Cannes. Throughout his career, he has alternated between such personal films as The Devil’s Backbone (2001) and Pan’s Labyrinth (in Competition at the Festival de Cannes and three Academy Awards, 2006), and larger movies such as Blade II (2002), Hellboy (2004), Hellboy II: The Golden Army (2008), Pacific Rim (2013) and Crimson Peak (2015).
