About Too Cool for School

Following a wave of films dedicated to the ’80s, Too Cool for School may well be the beginning of a new film era, which chose the « nineties » as their thematic, aesthetic and autobiographical reference. Kevin Phillips’s intention was that of sharing with the viewer a teenager’s experience typical of that decade. And he marvelously succeeds in merging together different aspects of that time: ghosts from Larry Clark’s films meet those from slasher ones. Sexual frustration holes up in a surprising place and it is used as a background.
