Région Ile-de-France is a proud supporter of La Semaine de la Critique, as they have been shining a light on young filmmakers’ unique worlds throughout the globe since 1962.

We commend and extend our thanks to Ava Cahen, its new Artistic Director, and all the members of the French Union of Film Critics, who keep striving to champion and present the whole range of current cinematic works.

We share the same passion for films, the same curiosity and the same will to see young talents emerge. Indeed, for the last 6 years, almost half of the works backed by Région Ile-de-France have been first and second feature films, among which I Lost my Body by Jérémy Clapin and Makala by Emmanuel Gras, both La Semaine de la Critique award winners.

We also share the same desire to assist younger generations in discovering contemporary cinema. La Semaine de la Critique’s educational workshops in high schools are in line with the whole range of film literacy schemes Region Ile-de-France carries out every year for over 50,000 pupils. These programmes are key in understanding and loving films, in having a better grasp of its world and vocabulary.

Martin Scorcese said that movies open doors and minds to other places. We believe that cinema is a window onto the world and a bulwark against intolerance and isolation.

We wish each and everyone of you a wonderful festival!
