Born in Shanghai, Wong Kar Wai moved at the age of five to Hong Kong with his parents. His first feature film As Tears Go By premiered at La Semaine de la Critique in 1988. His films received several awards. In 1997, Happy Together earned the Best Director Prize at Festival de Cannes and in 2000 Tony Leung was awarded the Best Actor Prize for In the Mood for Love, also in Cannes.
